Over 150 of the UK’s most innovative and resilient public and private sector businesses were announced on Wednesday 28th July, as finalists in the National Business Awards in partnership with Orange. Organisations shortlisted this year range from the well-known – Unilever, Camelot, Marks & Spencer, American Express, Coca Cola, The Co-Operative Group and Kwik Fit Insurance – through to the rising stars of Ella’s Kitchen, Freesat, Coffee Nation, Naked Wines, and Cheapflights.
So what do The National Business Awards have to do with me?
Well I’m extremely excited to announce that e-mphasis, my internet marketing agency, has been selected as a finalist in the Excellence in Marketing category. We spotted the awards from an email and discussed it with our PR company we jointly came to the conclusion that it would be a valuable exercise regardless of the outcome for e-mphasis to put forward an entry. The key decision factors for us were that:
- It was a nationally recognised award
- It had the support and sponsorship of credible organisations
- The judging criteria was on individual merit based on the quality of the submission rather than size or maturity of the company
National Business Awards: Finding a case study
It was important to us that we had an innovative and ethical case study that also proved the commercial value of our services to clients. Knowing which of our clients to put forward was actually quite a straightforward process for us. 4×4 Vehicle Hire have been a client since the e-mphasis brand was created in June 2009. They have always asked us to guide their internet marketing strategy and engaged with us as a team. Obviously some aspects of their marketing worked better than others but at all times we addressed tasks together, with open discussion and followed up with a considered but decisive approach.
The 4×4 Vehicle Hire website is nothing dramatic to look at in fact it was designed to be as cheap as possible whilst still providing all the key elements required to grab the attention of potential customers. What was critical from our client’s point of view about the project was that it completely covered it’s own costs right from inception, originally funded through a temporary reduction in PPC budget.
Excellence in Marketing Award Finalist: What next?
Our next challenge is to present to the panel of judges on the 28th September with the awards ceremony taking place at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane in London on the 9th November. So plenty of work still to do and lots of planning and no doubt a fair amount of nail biting!
Will e-mphasis win an award?
Obviously, like all the other contenders, we have no idea whether we have the winning bid but clearly all those organisations who have been shortlisted have a genuine case for being there. The effect of being selected as a finalist is already apparent with congratulations from those we work closely with and social connections alike. Notably the level of engagement from prospective clients has also increased on the news and of course our website traffic has increase significantly.
Like us no doubt the other finalists have worked very hard to achieve success in their areas of focus. We’d very much like to offer our congratulations to all the other finalists and to wish them every success in the awards and importantly in their future.
Thanks for reading and we look forward to letting you know how we get on
